Drilling Practices And Operations Techniques

This 5 day course is designed to provide a broad knowledge level competence on the general drilling process and operating best practices along with descriptions of the drilling equipment. Operations planning and implementation of drilling program from spud of the well is the main thrust of the course. Participants will be taken through drilling rig identification and equipment specification, mud and cement chemistry, rock properties, drilling optimization, hydraulics and various drilling problems encountered while delivering a well project. The course will review cost estimation, drilling reporting standards in combination with various technologies including computer programs used in aspects of drilling operations.

Course Content:
o Drilling rigs – type, identification and equipment specification
o Drilling performance, ROP optimization, bit selection
o Mud types and application, Chemistry and hole cleaning practices
o Cementing – slurry design, placement and optimization.
o Hole Cleaning – Hydraulics, annular velocity,
o Drilling problems – borehole instability, stuck pipe prevention, well control
o Tubular inspection and Quality management
o Operations Reporting – Drilling nomenclature, reporting standards,
o Value of Work Done estimation
o Rig HSE.
